I will be introducing a resolution recognizing September 27, 2026, as “Gold Star Mother’s Day” in Pennsylvania.

The Gold Star tradition began during World War I, when families displayed service flags to represent loved ones serving in the Armed Forces. A gold star came to signify those who made the ultimate sacrifice. In 1936, Congress designated the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mother’s Day, a national observance that continues each year.

Pennsylvania is home to many Gold Star Mothers who have lost a son or daughter in service to our nation. Despite their loss, they remain active in their communities, supporting service members, veterans, and fellow military families.

This resolution aligns with the national observance and honors the sacrifice and enduring strength of Gold Star Mothers across the Commonwealth.

Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution as we recognize the courage of Gold Star Mothers, honor the memory of their children, and express our gratitude for all they have given in service to our nation.
