In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to amend Title 18, the PA Crimes Code, section 5104, to provide the same protections for armed School Security Guards that are currently afforded to School Resource Officers, Police Officers and Corrections Officers.
 
Of the lawful, armed entities permitted in PA schools, School Resource Officer, School Police Officer and School Security Guard, only those who are designated as resource officers or police officers are afforded the statutory protection from an individual attempting to disarm them. My bill would amend the statute to apply equally to School Security Guards, considering the mission of armed resource officers, police officers, and security guards are the same. All three are imbedded, trained, armed assets in a school with the responsibility to defend and protect staff and students.
 
The title a school or school district places on their armed security should not discriminate as it concerns protections afforded to the officers or guards who put their own safety on the line to protect our students and staff members.
