Across Pennsylvania and the nation, victims’ services staff make up an important support system for families, children, and individuals affected by crime.

This network includes advocates, counselors, nurses, educators, and volunteers — the unsung heroes of our criminal justice system. Together, they work to guide survivors on the journey of recovery and justice, directing them to services, interfacing with law enforcement, helping hold perpetrators accountable, and teaching young people about healthy relationships.

Although crime impacts every community, the Commonwealth continues to make great strides in reducing and preventing crime. In fact, communities throughout our region are experiencing historic declines in violent crime and homicides.

As we continue to work to enhance public safety, educate communities on prevention, and help survivors heal, the role of victims’ services professionals is indispensable. In addition to valuing their work, compassion, and dedication, it’s important that we ensure they have the resources, investment, and tools to do their jobs effectively.

This week, recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the extensive and ongoing contributions of dedicated victims’ services agencies and staff across our Commonwealth.

Please join me in designating the Third Week of May 17 - 23, 2026, as “Victims Services Staff Appreciation Week” in Pennsylvania.
