In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution declaring May 2026 as “Correct Posture Month” in Pennsylvania.

Good posture is vital to our health, development, mobility, and overall wellness. When our bodies are properly aligned, we work better, we feel better, and we can do more. Good posture reduces strain and inflammation, sending the right signals to our brains for a positive mood and healthy emotional and physical growth.

Unfortunately, a growing reliance on technology and increasingly sedentary lifestyle choices have led to a rapid deterioration of good posture and related habits across the populations. “Slumping” or “slouching” is now regularly observed in children, teenagers, and young adults at an alarming rate. Meanwhile, poor posture can stress our brains and negatively impact brain development and hormonal systems.

Although posture comes from habits built over time, it can be improved with regular practice. By designating May 2026 “Correct Posture Month,” we want to highlight the steps Pennsylvanians can take to improve their health and to remind everyone that good posture supports overall wellness and a strong quality of life, including confidence, strength, and a positive outlook.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this valuable resolution and remember this for yourself and those around you: take frequent breaks from sitting, stand up straight and tall with your shoulders back, and keep your head level and in line with your body.
