Currently, the Insurance Company Law of 1921 includes references to the “Department of Public Welfare” and the “Public Welfare Code.” In 2014, the Department of Public Welfare went through a name change to officially become the Department of Human Services. Shortly after the department was renamed, the “Public Welfare Code” was updated to the “Human Services Code.”

For these reasons, I will be introducing legislation to revise this language under the Insurance Company Law of 1921. These name changes better reflect the department’s mission to serve all Pennsylvanians with dignity and respect and discontinue the use of outdated language.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to modernize a Pennsylvania insurance law by replacing obsolete references.
