Across Pennsylvania, individuals at risk of HIV often struggle to access the medications that could prevent infection. Pre‑exposure prophylaxis, otherwise known as PrEP, and post ‑exposure prophylaxis, otherwise known as PEP, are widely recognized by medical and public health professionals as effective tools for reducing HIV transmission. Yet barriers such as limited access to prescribers, insurance delays, stigma, and lack of awareness continue to limit their use.

I will be introducing legislation that addresses these challenges by giving pharmacists the ability to provide PrEP and PEP without a prescription. This legislation is designed to support timely access to prevention, reduce new infections, and strengthen Pennsylvania’s public health infrastructure.
