For individuals who are involved in the criminal justice system, treatment courts (also known as problem solving courts) provide an opportunity to address underlying issues. This model provides the individual with the structure and accountability so that they may rebuild their lives and reduce the risk of re-offending.

The first treatment court in Pennsylvania was established in Philadelphia in 1997 as an adult drug court program. This model has been replicated and expanded into other areas to focus on mental health, veterans, juvenile drug courts, driving under the influence courts and domestic violence. According to the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, there are currently 137 treatment courts across Pennsylvania.

To recognize and promote this important program, I will introducing a resolution to recognize May 2026 as National Treatment Court Month in Pennsylvania. It is imperative that we take a moment to reflect on the success of this program and encourage individuals to seek and sustain long-term recovery.

Please join me in sponsoring this resolution to recognize May as National Treatment Court Month in Pennsylvania.
