I will soon introduce a resolution designating May 2026 as “National Treatment Court Month” in Pennsylvania.

Treatment courts mark a major step forward in the justice system by combining evidence-based treatment for issues like substance use disorders and mental health with strong accountability, recovery support, and close judicial supervision. Instead of emphasizing punishment, these courts focus on addressing the underlying causes of criminal behavior.

Across the Commonwealth, treatment courts have proven highly effective in reducing recidivism, supporting recovery, preventing fatal overdoses, and enhancing public safety. By fostering strong community partnerships, these courts offer a cost-effective alternative to incarceration while promoting long-term recovery and stability. There are currently 137 treatment courts in the Commonwealth.

In 2024, the successful completion rates for the treatment courts were as follows: Adult Drug Court at 65%, DUI Court at 80%, Mental Health Court at 72%, and Veterans Treatment Court at 75%. Adult Drug Court saw an increase of 2% for successful completion and Mental Health saw an increase of 5%.

Statewide and county-specific data on the previously mentioned treatment courts can be found here.

I invite you to join me in supporting this important resolution to raise awareness about the significance of treatment courts and the positive impact they have on our constituents and communities.
