This bill amends the Prothonotary Fee Law to increase the automation fee charged by the prothonotary's office in certain counties. Specifically, the bill raises the maximum automation fee from $5 to $10 for the initiation of any action or legal proceeding. The collected fees will be deposited into a special prothonotary automation fund, which is designated solely for the automation and ongoing updates of the prothonotary's office.

Additionally, the bill introduces provisions allowing for the automation fee to be increased once every three years, with the increase capped at the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) over the preceding three years. This ensures that the fee can be adjusted in line with inflation while providing a structured approach to future increases. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
