Currently, many drivers rely on digital applications such as Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps for their navigation needs. These applications provide information on speed limits, road conditions, and accidents, but the veracity of this information often varies. Pennsylvania has its own platform for distributing this crucial traffic information in our 511PA system, but we can do better and share this important 511PA more broadly.

I plan to introduce legislation that will expand upon our current 511PA system by requiring PennDOT to partner with digital map providers and autonomous vehicle creators to incorporate 511PA into their platforms and applications. The bill will also create a grant program to facilitate the training and outfitting of local roadway reporters that are needed to report on road conditions, accidents, and any road restrictions or closures in real time.

By making PennDOT the digital authority of record for road conditions, we can ensure that drivers will always have accurate, live data on road conditions when travelling in Pennsylvania, rather than relying on third-party navigation systems for this information.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to upgrade our existing dynamic digital mapping framework in order to help all Pennsylvanians safely navigate our roadways.
