Home construction, additions, and renovations are key drivers of the economy and essential to quality of life, but with the rising costs of lumber it is increasingly difficult to afford the necessary supplies to complete projects. Since 2015 the wholesale price of lumber has almost tripled, leaving consumers on the sidelines and a backlog of building projects continually unrealized. In order to stimulate the construction industry, I am introducing legislation to exempt lumber from the sales tax.
