In the near future I will be introducing legislation that grants tax credits to small businesses who hire paid interns.

Many college students want an internship to gain connections in the field and work experience for after graduation; however, the financial realities of many student’s situations do not allow for them to take a full-time unpaid internship.

This legislation would provide $2,000 per intern up to a maximum of $10,000 per small business that hires Pennsylvania college students as paid interns for a full-time 6 week program. Providing more paid internships for Pennsylvania’s young people will encourage students to stay in Pennsylvania after graduation, build connections for young people to begin their career, and strengthen workforce readiness.

This tax credit will provide an avenue for more students to take on an internship while they are in school without having to worry about the financial burden of an unpaid internship and supports small businesses that are willing to make this possible. It also will provide support to small businesses that choose to take advantage of the tax credit.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation.
