In 2023, the Pennsylvania Wiretap Act was updated to permit state probation agents to use body cameras. Currently, county parole agents are not allowed to wear these devices because of the Wiretap Act's specific language, although other law enforcement personnel, such as sheriff's deputies, municipal police officers, and members of the Pennsylvania State Police, are authorized to do so.

State and county probation officers face similar challenges and circumstances while performing their duties. County parole agents frequently put themselves in danger while working. With body cameras, these recordings can promote transparency between the officers and the communities they serve.
