School libraries are one of the most precious resources our Commonwealth offers, and librarians are an integral part of ensuring they remain so. Librarians help students assess information, encourage reading, and manage library operations efficiently, meeting the needs of our students from kindergarten to graduation. Unfortunately, this profession is struggling, and the number employed in our schools has declined in recent years.
People who dedicate their lives to serve our young people should have that dedication recognized. The educational community has long celebrated April 4 as National School Librarian Day. This recognition underscores the essential role school librarians play in encouraging our young people to read, research, and explore knowledge. It also helps spread awareness about the importance of school libraries and serves as an opportunity to inspire future generations to join the profession. For this reason, I am introducing a resolution to recognize April 4, 2026, as “School Librarian Day” in Pennsylvania.
School librarians provide so many benefits to our schools, communities, and young people. By recognizing their contributions, we acknowledge the importance of their work and the value of their service. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to honor them.
