I will soon introduce a resolution recognizing the month of April, 2026 as “Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month” (LLLDAM) in Pennsylvania.
Approximately 2.7 million Americans of all ages, races and genders live every day with limb loss. Nearly 2,000 are veterans and over 300 Americans lose a limb daily, which adds up to over 100,000 per year. When limb difference – defined as the partial or complete absence of or malfunction of limbs – is included number of Americans affected more than doubles to 5.6 million.  Despite this, 54% of amputees and many others with limb difference do not receive a prothesis often due to inadequate insurance coverage or lack of access to certified providers.
Started by the Amputee Coalition – an organization advocating for people with limb loss and limb difference for 40 years – LLLDAM is a time to educate the public, empower individuals living with limb loss or limb difference, and promote equitable access to prosthetic care and mobility support. This year’s theme, “Freedom of Movement,” encourages everyone, from individuals to organizations, to take meaningful steps toward progress which includes the expansion of access to prosthetic care through proposed legislation such as the
So Every Body Can Move Act.
Please join me in support in recognizing April 2026 as “Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.
