In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to establish a driver’s license designation for first responders and retired first responders.

Across the Commonwealth, first responders serve on the front lines giving back to their community every single day. They respond to emergencies 24/7, putting their lives on the line every time they put on the uniform. For many first responders, service does not end when the shift is over. Even when off duty, they carry the training, the readiness, and the instinct to step forward in an emergency.

It is important that we continue to properly recognize first responders in the Commonwealth. This legislation will require PennDOT to issue a driver’s license or identification card to a qualified applicant that clearly indicates if they are a first responder. Qualified applicants include employed, volunteer, and retired first responders.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
