In the near future I plan on introducing legislation that would increase transparency around parking fees associated with rental units.

Too often tenants are not made aware of additional costs associated with their residential rental unit after they have executed their contract.  When parking is not part of an included amenity for a tenant, information on the costs of parking should be known to a potential tenant prior to the execution of the rental agreement.  Knowing this information upfront allows a tenant to make an informed decision on the rental and allow them to appropriately budget.

To address this, I am introducing a companion bill to Representative Green’s House Bill 344, which requires landlords to be explicit in the lease agreement about whether parking is provided and, if so, whether the tenant must pay a fee and the amount of said fee. If a landlord fails to do so, they would be required to cover any costs of parking that the tenant may incur.

My legislation will allow tenants to be better consumers and prevent them from being caught off guard with unexpected parking fees. Please join me in co-sponsoring this bill to enhance protections for renters throughout our state.
