Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an international service organization, was founded on January 15, 1908, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women.
On January 15, 2026, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. celebrated her 118th year of sisterhood and service to all mankind. On
June 2, 2026, close to 200 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will visit the Capitol for “AKA Day at the Capitol,” to advocate for issues relevant to voter engagement, issues that endeavor to empower families, enhancing the environment, social justice, and finally, issues that uplift local communities.
AKA Day at the Capitol is an annual legislative event that provides a platform for civic engagement, advocacy, and dialogue between the sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Representatives and Senators of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. As such, your participation will be instrumental in emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, representation, and equity in policymaking. Together, we can highlight the invaluable contributions of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to our great Commonwealth while advancing critical conversations for the betterment of the residents of the Commonwealth.
To that end, I am honored to invite you to join me in co-sponsoring a Resolution that designates
June 2, 2026, as AKA Day at the Capitol in Pennsylvania in recognition of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
