Demand to live and work in Pennsylvania is increasing, but the Commonwealth does not have the housing infrastructure to meet that need. Governor Shapiro recently proposed his bold Housing Action Plan to help build more housing. One tool that may be utilized is the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). However, housing centered projects typically do not qualify as eligible projects under this program.
My legislation would authorize the use of RACP to fund housing development projects. Pennsylvania needs to build 450,000 housing units by 2035 to meet increasing demand. Utilizing an already successful statewide grant program to increase housing is just one step we can take now towards addressing the housing crisis.
Please join me in authorizing RACP funds to be used for housing by co-sponsoring this bill.
