Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. Over time, more than half of people with diabetes will develop DR.

One of the most important prevention methods is regular eye screenings. On April 25, 2026 free diabetic eye screenings will be taking place across the state to assist in the detection and prevention of diabetes-related eye disease. This resolution aims to bring awareness to these screenings, as well as applaud the efforts of the ophthalmologists who will be donating their time and services to this important cause.
