There are currently over 800,000 social workers serving communities across the country, and this figure is only projected to continue to grow as time goes on. To recognize the role these professionals play in our communities, I will soon be introducing a resolution to designate March 2026 as “National Social Work Month” in Pennsylvania.
Social workers are amongst some of our most devoted, passionate, and resilient professionals. For decades, the social work profession has been dedicated to improving human well-being and enhancing the basic needs of all individuals, especially the most vulnerable. Their services are needed now more than ever.
There are very few roles that have an impact in such diverse settings for such diverse populations. Their commitment to empowering individuals, families, and communities is felt nationwide in our schools, hospitals, military, child welfare agencies, community centers, and all levels of government.
Every single day, social workers work to improve their communities through positively touching the lives of the people around them in acts such as assisting veterans’ reentry into civilian life, strengthening struggling families, connecting individuals with transformative services, and even just providing an empathetic ear for someone in need.
Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution to honor the exceptional and vital of our Commonwealth’s social workers.
