Medicaid provides essential access to prescription medications, yet Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) can limit which pharmacies may fill these prescriptions, even when the pharmacy and pharmacist are in good standing with the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Since Medicaid is a taxpayer-funded program, PBMs should not be able to control what pharmacy taxpayer-funded Medicaid can be used at when the pharmacy and pharmacist are in good standing with the state and federal government. That is why I plan to introduce legislation requiring PBMs to accept Medicaid prescriptions from any pharmacy and pharmacist who meet these standards. The goal is to ensure patients can access medications from qualified providers, support fair competition, and protect taxpayer dollars from being restricted by private intermediaries.

I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to safeguard access to care and uphold the integrity of Pennsylvania’s licensed pharmacists.
