Over 2.5 million residents of Pennsylvania are age 65 or older.  An increasing number of those seniors will remain at home during their golden years.  However, as property taxes increase, the number of seniors who can no longer afford to live in their home is also increasing which adds to our current housing crisis.  Our seniors deserve protection and should not be forced out of the comforts of their home because of property taxes.

To better understand how we, as a legislative body, can prevent seniors from losing their home, I will be proposing a resolution to direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct research on the feasibility of providing a property tax exemption for seniors.  Let’s work together to address this growing housing problem among seniors.
