Every voter in Pennsylvania is assigned to a precinct, which determines their polling place and which candidates appear on their ballot. The precinct is also the smallest level of geography that election data is available for, making it invaluable for promoting transparency in our elections. Further, when paired with precinct boundaries, precinct-level election data can help answer questions involving geography. Unfortunately, barriers currently prevent the effective use of precinct-level election data, including inconsistent names of precincts between election results and geographical data.
To address this issue, I am introducing a bill to empower the Secretary of State to determine a uniform precinct naming convention that each county must follow. We as state lawmakers know how important it is that our voters have confidence in our elections. By making precinct-level election data more accessible and easier to use, we improve the accountability of our election systems and can allow for more detailed information. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to improve access to precinct-level election data and increase trust in our elections.
