Since 2009, March 31 has marked a day to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of over 2.8 million individuals identifying as transgender across the United States. Transgender individuals are part of the fabric of our Commonwealth, serving in our communities and military, raising families, and leading businesses.

In a time of escalating hostility and attacks against transgender individuals, Transgender Day of Visibility is both a celebration of a community's contributions and an act of defiance that stands up for core American values – life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness – against those who seek to limit an individual's freedoms. It is furthermore a beacon of resilience and encouragement for individuals who are not yet able or ready to publicly identify as transgender. To celebrate the transgender community in our state and in our nation, I am introducing a resolution recognizing March 31, 2026, as “Trans Day of Visibility” in Pennsylvania.

Transgender members of our communities deserve the freedom and safety to live openly and authentically as themselves - no more and no less than any other Pennsylvanian. Within the transgender community itself exist a wide range of lived experiences and expressions of identity, which speaks to the importance of transgender visibility - it is incumbent on those of us who would lead to celebrate the authentic, diverse, and beautiful stories that reflect the many and intersectional individuals that constitute our constituencies. I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this resolution and help affirm the dignity and contributions of transgender people across Pennsylvania.
