Driving in adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, snow, sleet, smoke, dust, or any other conditions which reduce visibility often proves difficult and unsafe. In 2024, almost 20% of all accidents on the road occurred during adverse weather conditions which negatively affected visibility. During those moments of low visibility, our drivers rely on the painted pavement markings to see ahead and safely operate their vehicles. Unfortunately, as many of us have seen in our districts, these painted pavement markings are often chipped, faded, or so washed-out that you can barely see them even in the best of conditions.

To address this issue, I will be introducing legislation requiring updated painting standards for PennDOT for pavement markings on our roads similar to what many other states are using. These new standards will require use of advanced resin technology to improve durability and be thicker to improve safety and visibility. By using this improved paint, we can have a positive impact on road safety while providing longer-lasting improvements to Pennsylvania’s system of roads.

Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation to improve pavement markings on our roads.
