Protecting Gig Workers from Batch Grabbers
Soon, I will introduce legislation to enhance protections for Pennsylvania gig workers on mobile app delivery platforms.
The mobile app gig economy sustains flexible employment for thousands of Pennsylvania gig workers seeking to generate supplemental income for their families. Unfortunately, bad actors have taken to utilizing software known as “batch bots” or “batch grabbers” to circumvent company policies and monopolize the market.
In a near instant, a batch bot can identify the most profitable orders or delivery routes on a platform and claim them for its user, long before other gig workers have had the opportunity to secure their own orders. The speed of these bots ensures overwhelming success over competitors who refuse to deploy the same underhanded tactics.
My legislation will help preserve the integrity of our Commonwealth’s mobile app gig economy by ensuring greater accountability against this misuse of technology.
