The rise of smartphone use over the past two decades has allowed many people throughout the world to manage their lives digitally. Banking, paying bills, filing taxes, and many other tasks can all be completed quickly and without paper. As the digitization of our world continues to expand and we look into ideas such as digital drivers’ licenses and digital proof of insurance, we should also consider allowing Pennsylvania drivers to carry their vehicle registration cards digitally.

As PennDOT no longer provides a paper copy of vehicle registration cards and fewer homes have printers, I will soon introduce legislation to give drivers the option to carry their vehicle registration card digitally.
My legislation will also protect the driver’s privacy if they choose to show a law enforcement officer digital proof of registration in the event that the officer views other information on the driver’s smartphone or other electronic device.

Please join me in supporting this commonsense legislation that will make providing proof of registration more convenient for Pennsylvanians.
