All across the country used car sales significantly outnumber new car sales, and it is no wonder why: Among other barriers, new cars typically come with a higher price point, putting the purchase of a new vehicle beyond the ability of many hard-working Pennsylvanians. And while Pennsylvania’s Lemon Law protects consumers from unsafe and defective new cars, no similar protections exist if a person buys a used car with the same substantial defects, leaving consumers without the ability to have the manufacturer attempt to correct the defect, receive a refund, or receive a replacement vehicle
To make sure that we are protecting all of our consumers, I will be introducing legislation that will expand the Lemon Law protections to also cover used vehicle purchases. There is no reason that a person who chooses to buy a used car or motorcycle, or who cannot afford to purchase a new vehicle, should be forced to suffer from a substantial manufacturing defect that wasn’t addressed before the vehicle was re-sold.

Please join me in supporting this legislation to protect all Pennsylvania consumers from driving around in unsafe and defective vehicles, and offer them the same protections that we offer to drivers of new cars and motorcycles.
