It has recently come to my attention that some school districts are sending letters to families of cyber charter students to return to the school district in exchange for a “grant.”

Students and families in Pennsylvania have the right to choose which school fits their needs best, whether that’s a school district, cyber charter school, home school, or private school.

Districts received significant new funding in the last two budget cycles to improve services for current students, not to claw back enrollment by financially disadvantaging other public schools. Instead of enrollment-based financial incentives intended to harm other public school options, districts should put that money into meeting the needs of the students currently enrolled in their school.

Considering this information, I will soon be introducing legislation that will prevent any public school entity from using taxpayer funds to pay students or their families to attend their school.

I encourage you to join me in preventing this mismanagement of public funds.
