Chiropractors in Pennsylvania are allowed to delegate certain in-office tasks to unlicensed support personnel, so long as these tasks do not require the expertise of a licensed chiropractor and are performed under the supervision of a chiropractor. However, there are still ambiguities as to the specific tasks that can be delegated. These ambiguities lead to increased delays and barriers to care for patients, as well as unnecessary administrative burdens for chiropractors.
For this reason, I will be introducing legislation to establish Certified Chiropractic Assistants (CCAs) with defined responsibilities to guarantee quality care while tasks are being delegated. This new certification will alleviate the impact of current restrictions, improve patient satisfaction, and maintain high standards of care. Further, this legislation has been crafted to protect both the patients' right to accessible healthcare and the integrity of chiropractic practice.
This legislation is strongly supported by the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association and aligns with the best practices outlined by the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards. I look forward to your support in modernizing and strengthening chiropractic care in Pennsylvania and ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of patients and practitioners alike.
