This resolution directs the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a comprehensive study on the trauma-informed care training provided to law enforcement officers as mandated by Act 59 of 2020. The study aims to evaluate various aspects of the training, including how officers are educated on recognizing and interacting with individuals affected by trauma, the frequency of such training, the qualifications of training providers, and how Pennsylvania's training compares to that of other states. Additionally, the resolution seeks to gather data on the number of officers trained, the impact of this training on reducing violence, and potential improvements to state laws and practices regarding trauma-informed care.
The findings and recommendations from this study are to be compiled into a report and submitted to the House of Representatives within one year of the resolution's adoption. The initiative underscores the importance of trauma-informed care in enhancing the well-being of law enforcement officers and improving their interactions with the public, particularly individuals experiencing trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder.
