Soon I will introduce a resolution designating February 15, 2026, as "International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania. This resolution is substantially similar to Senate Resolution 45 of the 2025-26 Legislative Session.

Cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death among children and adolescents. While advances in treatment have improved survival rates, many therapies—originally developed for adults—can leave lasting physical and emotional impacts on young patients and their families.

International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day serves as a time to honor the courageous children fighting this disease and to remember those who have passed far too soon. It is also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to supporting families, funding research, and advocating for safer, more effective treatments.

The Pennsylvania General Assembly has taken meaningful steps in the fight against pediatric cancer, but there is still much work to be done. By designating this day, we can help raise awareness, encourage community engagement, and inspire donations to organizations dedicated to finding cures and providing care.

Previous co-sponsors of SR 45 were: Brooks, Comitta, Costa, Culver, Dush, Fontana, Haywood, Hutchinson, Kane, Laughlin, Malone, Pennycuick, Phillips-Hill, Robinson, Santarsiero, Schwank, Stefano, Street, Tartaglione, Vogel and J. Ward.

I invite you to join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution and standing with the children and families affected by childhood cancer.
