It is hard to get a job in today’s economy.  Ghost Job postings make that even tougher, with Pennsylvanians wasting time and effort applying for jobs that don’t exist.

Within the last year, there have been reports claiming that up to twenty seven percent of job postings on popular online job boards are for positions that do not exist or that the employer does not plan on filling in a timely manner. These ghost job postings are being used more frequently to showcase an image of company growth, to fulfill human resources requirements, build a talent pool, or to gather data that can help with future recruitment efforts. People seeking jobs deserve respect and protection. We must address these ghost job postings that waste applicants time and effort, may violate data protection laws, create unnecessary competition, and distort labor market data.

For these reasons, I will be introducing legislation that will require transparency around salary, hiring intentions, the use of artificial intelligence in hiring practices, and eliminate fake job ads.
Job postings would be mandated to provide specifics details like hire date, start date, if the position is a new role, and if the position is currently funded. This will ensure that all job postings are genuine job opportunities while creating a fair and more honest labor market for Pennsylvanians.

Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation to promote genuine employment opportunities, fair hiring practices while protecting Pennsylvanians who are looking for work.
