In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that renames an “approved private school” for special education as an “approved special education school” in the Public School Code and other regulations. These schools are approved by the Secretary of Education and are eligible to receive payments for tuition from money of the school districts and the Commonwealth. This change more accurately reflects their purpose and mission and removes any unintended negative connotation that may come from the current name. My legislation will not in any way affect how approved private schools function, operate or serve our Commonwealth’s students. Approved private schools have requested this legislation and are supportive.
Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation.
