The Republic of Haiti is enduring a period of profound instability, leaving millions in urgent need of food, water and basic safety. Without clear direction for credible information and how to contribute to legitimate humanitarian aid efforts, Pennsylvanians who want to help are struggling to support the people of Haiti from afar, while Pennsylvanians living or working in Haiti face increasing uncertainty.

This lack of a clear framework for credible information and reputable assistance makes it difficult for Pennsylvanians to provide the help that is desperately needed. Therefore, I am introducing a resolution that recognizes the humanitarian crisis in Haiti while also urging the Pennsylvania Department of State to coordinate with the United States Secretary of State and relevant federal partners to compile and publicize a list of trusted humanitarian, nonprofit, and faith-based organizations that Pennsylvanians can choose to support.

The Department of State has an essential role in safeguarding the philanthropic intent of Pennsylvania donors. By providing verified avenues for assistance, the Commonwealth can ensure that Pennsylvanians are able to confidently contribute to humanitarian relief for Haiti with the highest level of trust and security. This ensures that when residents answer the call to help, their generosity effectively reaches those in need.

Please support this resolution and help to ensure that Pennsylvania can do its part in helping to promote peace and stability in the Republic of Haiti.
