Working families across the state are struggling to find affordable child care. Child care is becoming increasingly expensive, outpacing the current inflation rate, and creating an affordability crisis that leaves many families without access to these necessary services.

To address these financial barriers to quality child care, I plan to introduce legislation that would advance access to universal child care in Pennsylvania, as done in New Mexico and New York. My bill would create a task force to:

  • Define universal child care;
  • Identify recommendations for a permanent funding stream;
  • Advise the Commonwealth in the development of an implementation framework; and
  • Report its findings to the legislature.

UNICEF ranked the United States 40th out of 41 high-income countries on child care policies. It is time that we join other states who are working to expand access to child care for their communities and be part of a bold solution to deliver universal child care to Pennsylvanians.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation that will benefit all children and families in Pennsylvania.
