In the near future, I will introduce a Senate Resolution condemning the Iranian regime’s mass killing of civilians, its violent suppression of peaceful protesters, and its deliberate shutdown of internet access during recent nationwide unrest.

Credible international reporting indicates that more than 500 civilians have been killed in Iran, with thousands more arrested or detained for exercising basic freedoms. Security forces have reportedly used lethal force against largely unarmed civilians, including women and young people. In addition, the regime has intentionally disrupted and shut down internet access to silence dissent, restrict communication, and conceal human rights abuses from the global community.

While foreign policy rests at the federal level, state legislatures have historically exercised moral leadership by condemning genocide, crimes against humanity, and the killing of innocent civilians abroad. Introducing this resolution would be consistent with our Commonwealth’s longstanding commitment to human rights, religious freedom, and the sanctity of life.

The proposed resolution will:
  • Condemn the killing of civilians, violent repression, and internet shutdowns by the Iranian regime;
  • Condemn acts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity committed by radical Islamist and extremist regimes;
  • Affirm Pennsylvania’s commitment to human dignity and fundamental freedoms;
  • Express solidarity with victims, including women, children, religious minorities, and political dissidents;
  • Urge Congress and federal authorities to continue holding perpetrators accountable through lawful diplomatic, economic, and legal means;
  • Reject ideological extremism and state-sponsored terror in all its forms.
This resolution carries no fiscal impact and serves as a clear moral statement rather than a policy directive. I believe this measure will resonate with constituents who expect principled leadership in the face of global human rights abuses.
