Recent news reports about the alleged fraud within Minnesota’s taxpayer-subsidized child care programs have caused concern across the nation. Pennsylvania’s taxpayers deserve assurance from a credible source that our state’s programs are well-managed by the Department of Human Services and not vulnerable to fraud and waste.

We will soon be introducing legislation to provide for an audit of the Commonwealth’s taxpayer-funded child care programs and of the Department of Human Services’ oversight of those programs.

Pennsylvania, like most states, has limited resources to operate these programs. This legislation is designed to ensure that taxpayers are getting full value for their tax money and to ensure that those dollars are going to help our working families who need assistance with child care.

We look forward to working with you on this important legislation.
