This bill amends the Human Services Code of Pennsylvania to provide for pregnancy-related and postpartum medical assistance. It introduces a new section, Section 441.10, which allows women receiving medical assistance under a specific provision of the Social Security Act to be eligible for additional medical assistance for up to twelve months following childbirth or a pregnancy loss. To qualify, women must be eligible for medical assistance at the time of delivery, not otherwise eligible for assistance, and have an income below 215% of the federal poverty guidelines.

The bill also mandates that the Department of Human Services seek necessary federal approvals, including a State plan amendment or a federal waiver, to implement this assistance program. If federal approval is not granted, the Secretary must report to the Governor and the General Assembly within 180 days, outlining how the application can be improved for future approval. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
