In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will outlaw surveillance pricing in Pennsylvania.

A recent investigative
report found that Instacart is conducting artificial intelligence-enabled price experiments on its customers. These "algorithmic pricing” experiments involve giving different prices to different customers for the same goods at the same store at the same time. The prices differed by as much as 23% per item. And Instacart isn’t alone – there have been reported instances of these methods being used by Target, Delta, and online travel booking companies.

Grocery store prices are already higher than ever, and now greedy corporations are using AI to manipulate customers into paying more than their neighbor. They are training AI with our personal data and rigging prices to charge us as much as possible. My legislation will ban companies from using our personal data to charge different prices to different customers for the same product at the same time and will regulate the use of consumer data in pricing strategies.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important and timely piece of legislation.
