The impact of child care touches every major system of a working society. The comforts and supports that come with high-quality child care—and the stresses and strains that come from its absence—affect all Pennsylvanians, regardless of age. There’s no question that the expenses and hardships associated with securing child care are unsustainable. As other states wake up to this realization, Pennsylvania must be among them when it comes to solutions.

An investment in Universal Child Care would be a positive step forward in growing and maintaining an economically competitive, family-oriented workforce, as well as communities where people set down generational roots.

That’s why in the near future we will be introducing legislation to advance access to Universal Child Care in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Consistent with actions taken by New Mexico and New York, this legislation will create a task force that will:
- define Universal Child Care;
- identify recommendations for a permanent funding stream;
- advise the Commonwealth in the development of an implementation framework;
- and report its findings to the legislature.
Universal Child Care would make our Commonwealth healthier and stronger, ensuring its future as a place where families are able to flourish. We hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this important legislation to care for communities across Pennsylvania.
