In the United States, approximately 1.3 million women enter menopause each year. For many, this natural transition is often accompanied by a range of challenging symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, urinary incontinence, mood swings, weight gain, dry skin, and joint pain. Additionally, women may face increased risks for conditions like osteoporosis. There are various treatment options available to alleviate these symptoms, including FDA-approved hormone therapy, non-hormonal medications, and alternative approaches such as increased physical activity and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Unfortunately, many women lack access to these treatments or are unaware of the options available to them. To address this issue, I am proposing legislation that would mandate private insurers to cover both hormonal and non-hormonal therapies for menopausal symptoms, as long as they are recommended by a healthcare professional and demonstrated to be safe and effective in peer-reviewed studies. My legislation will also ensure insurance coverage for therapies related to menopause induced by hysterectomy.

I urge you to consider co-sponsoring this essential legislation to enhance access to necessary treatments for women experiencing menopausal symptoms. Together, we can make a significant difference in their quality of life.
