Housing costs continue to rise faster than wages, making homeownership increasingly out of reach while burdening renters. However, increasing the development of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces within walking distance of public transit—known as transit-oriented development— is one strategy to help address the housing shortage.

Through transit-oriented development, we can improve the supply of housing close to jobs and transportation networks, improve the efficiency of transportation networks, and reduce car dependency. In so doing, we can help to lower energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. To spur transit-oriented development in Pennsylvania, I am introducing legislation to require greater housing densities near public transit stops.

Housing costs will continue to grow without us taking action now. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to help make our communities more affordable and mobile.
