For 125 years, the Philadelphia Orchestra has greatly contributed to the cultural landscape of the Commonwealth, provided amazing historical moments, and has provided our state and the world with wonderful music. The orchestra performed the soundtrack of Walt Disney’s Fantasia, was the first symphony orchestra to make electrical recordings, and was the first orchestra to appear on a television broadcast. For these reasons and many more, the Philadelphia Orchestra deserves recognition for its remarkable 125 years of continued success.
The Philadelphia Orchestra continues to empower visionary musicians and civic leaders and provides meaningful contributions to Philadelphia and the Commonwealth. The “Philadelphia Sound” has touched the lives of countless people, and under the leadership of Music and Artistic Director Yannick N zet-S guin, the orchestra will continue to be a beacon for our Commonwealth.
I hope you will show your support for this grand Pennsylvania institution when I introduce a resolution that designates November 16, 2025, as Philadelphia Orchestra Day and recognizes the 125th anniversary of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
