Pennsylvania’s forest products industry is an essential part of the Commonwealth’s economy. The industry employs over 60,000 people, representing over 10% of our manufacturing workforce with an annual economic impact of $39 billion. The continued success of our forest products industry would not be possible without the proper stewardship of our natural resources by our timber harvesters.
One such driver of proper forest management is the Pennsylvania Sustainable Forestry Initiative Implementation Committee. Formed in 1995, the Committee is a nonprofit comprised of individuals from across the forest products industry, representatives from government agencies and scientists. The Committee focuses on sustainable forestry outreach and education to ensure the longevity and health of our forests and forest resources.
Please join us in recognizing the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Pennsylvania Sustainable Forestry Initiative Implementation Committee by co-sponsoring this resolution acknowledging the efforts of the industry and designating December 17 as Sustainable Forestry Day in Pennsylvania.
