Soon, we plan to introduce a resolution designating November 20, 2025 as “Transgender Day of Remembrance” and November 13-19, 2025 as “Transgender Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania.
SisTers PGH describes Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) as a day where trans people gather worldwide to remember those lost to violence. In the past year, at least 27 transgender and gender-expansive people have had their lives tragically taken through violent means, including gun and interpersonal violence. As in prior years, many of the homicides were committed against Black trans women.
Transgender Awareness Week proceeds Transgender Day of Remembrance and is described by GLAAD as a week when transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the community by educating the public about who transgender people are, sharing stories and experiences, and advancing advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the transgender community.
This resolution is intended to celebrate the joy, beauty, and lives of transgender people – in direct contrast to the unrelenting attacks on their humanity and existence from all levels of government, including this legislature. This resolution is also intended to elevate the continued, critical need for proactive legislative action so that Pennsylvania can be a place where all trans people are safe, healthy, and thriving.
Please join us in co-sponsoring this resolution.
