In the near future, we will be reintroducing legislation that seeks to ensure greater access to contraceptives for individuals across the Commonwealth.

People use contraception for an array of personal reasons and medical reasons. While preventing unintended pregnancies is a common purpose, contraception is also used to manage severe conditions such as endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as well as to regulate hormones and plan or space future pregnancies. Access to contraception supports career stability, improves personal and family well-being, and allows individuals greater control over their health and their lives.

This legislation will expand access to reproductive health care by requiring insurers to provide coverage for contraceptives, eliminating most co-payments for related coverage, removing pre-authorization requirements for certain contraceptives, and authorizing insurers to cover up to 12 months of birth control at one time.

Please join us in supporting this important legislation to strengthen reproductive freedom and health care access in Pennsylvania.

This bill is a companion bill to Representative Leanne Krueger’s HB 1140 of 2025-26. Previous co-sponsors in the Senate were Senators Costa, Hughes, Fontana, Kearney, Street, Santarsiero, Tartaglione, Kane, Muth, Comitta, Haywood and L. Williams.
