We will soon introduce legislation to create a pathway for the installation of a modern technology: the electrified perimeter security system. These outdoor systems are installed inside existing barrier fences, or walls, and instantly alert alarm monitoring services when a breach occurs, enabling rapid communication with business owners and swift action to address potential threats.

Despite their proven effectiveness and safety, the implementation of electrified perimeter security systems has been slowed by regulatory uncertainty. This lack of clarity has discouraged many businesses from adopting these enhanced security measures, leaving their property, employees, and inventory vulnerable.

To address this, we are introducing legislation that will set clear parameters for the installation and use of these systems exclusively in non-residential settings. By removing regulatory ambiguity, we will give Pennsylvania businesses the confidence to adopt these modern security measures without unnecessary delays or obstacles.

Twenty-nine other states – including Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia – have already adopted similar laws. Pennsylvania should not fall behind when it comes to protecting local businesses from theft and vandalism.

We invite you to join us in co-sponsoring this legislation to give businesses in our Commonwealth stronger, more reliable security options.
