In the near future, we plan to introduce legislation that would require hotel and short-term rental operators, as well as booking agents, to share information on occupancy/rental transactions with counties.

By law, hotel and short-term rental operators, as well as booking agents, are required to collect state and county occupancy taxes from patrons and remit the collected taxes to the appropriate taxing authorities.  While hotel operators are typically good at collecting and remitting taxes, some short-term rental operators and booking agents do not have the same track record.

To assist our taxing authorities with the collection of occupancy taxes and help bring about fairness and transparency with the process, we will be introducing two bills.
